So You Think You Don’t Need Professional Strategy & Mentoring?

One of the comments I hear most often is, "I don't think I need coaching."

And often, people are right. If you're happy where you are, enjoying your work and your career is progressing exactly as you'd hoped, then you probably don't need my support.

Where Professional Strategy & Mentoring becomes valuable is when you know you're capable of more, but you're not entirely sure how to bridge the gap between where you are today and where you want to be.

Over the years, I've worked with nannies moving into private households for the first time, professionals transitioning into the superyacht industry, experienced nannies aiming for UHNW roles, and childcare professionals launching businesses of their own. Although every conversation is different, I often notice the same themes emerging.

People underestimate themselves and never apply for the roles they're actually well suited to. Others accept positions without fully understanding what will be expected of them. Some struggle to negotiate their rates because they worry about appearing difficult, while others find themselves saying yes to everything and eventually become overwhelmed because they never established clear professional boundaries.

None of those things are a reflection of someone's ability as a nanny.

They're the sorts of challenges that come from stepping into an industry where so much of the knowledge is unwritten.

Google doesn't have all the answers to your niche questions.. how hierarchy works in a fully staffed household, how to build trust with a House Manager, how to support principals without overstepping, or how those dynamics translate into life onboard a yacht. Nobody tells you that arriving exactly on time often means you've already started behind. Nobody explains the small details that quietly build a reputation for professionalism, or the subtle behaviours that make families, crew and agencies want to work with you again.

Those are the conversations I love having.

Yes, we might look at your CV, your interview preparation or your job search strategy, but they're not the only valuable part of the session.

Instead, we often find ourselves discussing how to define what makes you genuinely different from every other applicant, how to communicate your experience more effectively, or how to position yourself for the next stage of your career rather than simply your next job.

Sometimes we're planning a move from au pairing into professional nannying. Sometimes it's preparing for a first superyacht season. Sometimes it's mapping out the journey towards UHNW households, and increasingly I'm working with childcare professionals who are building consultancies, launching training programmes or turning years of experience into successful businesses.

What I enjoy most isn't telling people what to do.

It's helping them see opportunities they hadn't considered, identifying roadblocks before they become problems, and giving them the confidence to make decisions with far greater clarity.

I've made plenty of mistakes throughout my own career. I've learned many lessons the hard way, and I'm very open about that because if my experience can save someone months or even years of unnecessary trial and error, then that's knowledge worth sharing.

Ultimately, Professional Strategy & Mentoring isn't about creating dependence. My aim is exactly the opposite. I want every client to leave with a clearer direction, practical next steps and the confidence to continue building their career long after our conversation has finished.

Because the childcare industry has enormous potential, and every professional who raises their standards helps raise the standard of the industry as a whole.

If you're feeling ready for your next step but would value an experienced sounding board, I'd love to help you map out the route forward. Email ella@superyachtnanny.co to get started!
