Navigating the High Seas: How Superyacht Nannies Create Seamless Onboard Experiences

16
Luxury yachting isn’t just for adults. Superyacht nannies play a crucial role in ensuring that young guests enjoy the same level of care and attention as their parents. But what exactly goes into creating an enriching and memorable experience for children on board?

From interactive activities to bespoke learning sessions, superyacht nannies seamlessly blend safety and fun, making every moment special. Whether it’s setting up a treasure hunt one afternoon, sand castle competitions on a secluded beach or teaching basic marine biology on deck, we turn the yacht into a safe, adventure playground—one that’s fully customised to each child’s needs and interests. This careful planning and flexibility is what ensures children are engaged, happy, and safe, allowing parents to relax and fully enjoy their time on board.

Hiring a nanny who has experience working onboard has been a game changer my client’s report. As with everything in yachting, it is all about attention to detail and continually WOW-ing the guests.

A few of the ways I level up the children’s experience onboard:
• Ensuring they are fully safety briefed, at a level that works for them.
• Fire doors are heavy, I always make sure my charges aren’t trapped. I am aware this sounds silly, but with things like going to the bathroom, they often want to go alone, so I make sure once they are ready to come out, I am on hand to help them open the door
• Setting up nap time signs as little people nap at very inconvenient times for housekeeping work in the cabins. By putting signs on the cabin door when there is someone napping, the little ones get un-interrupted naps and the stews don’t need to worry about radio-ing to find out if the cabin is vacant.
• Working with the chef to create exciting, child-safe menus. So much care and planning goes into the adult’s menu, the children are often just stuck with chicken strips, chips and broccoli (not that they often complain about the chicken and chips!) but I love to create exciting meals for them which feel like a holiday treat but are also nutritionally balanced. I am also not against helping to set up an ice cream topping session!

I thought I would round this blog off with some of my work highlights:
• Working a tandem charter, with a 70m and 90m yacht and three delightful little people (all under two years of age). On this charter I worked alongside a maternity nurse and the crews onboard were brilliant at making the guest experience extra special – I have never seen such a well decked out pirate party!
• Teaching my charge about the dinosaurs that once lived on Capri. This was done whilst before we jet skied to the Faraglioni rocks (with security) to admire the bat caves.
• Racing in the Rolex Maxi Cup in Porto Cervo. Although there were a lot more qualified sailors than me, my charge still enjoyed my little lessons on sailing and the sea. Have you ever wondered why it is windy before a storm?
